To Whom Does This Apply?

This document is based on information from the Government of New Brunswick (Services) Web site, February 2008.

Dealer licence may indicate a dealer of the following: new motor vehicles, used motor vehicles, motorcycles, sub-dealer, and/or wrecker dealers.

Summary

Application for a dealer's, sub-dealer's, used motor vehicle dealer's, motor cycles or wrecker's licence must be made on a form provided and must contain:

  • name and address of the applicant,
  • if the applicant is a partnership, the name and address of each partner,
  • if the applicant is a corporation, the names of the principal officers of the corporation,
  • location where business is going to be conducted,
  • nature of such business,
  • zoning approval from authority having jurisdiction over area in which premises is situated, and
  • other information as may be required by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.

All applications will be verified.

The required fees and a bond of guarantee must accompany all applications.

A Motor Vehicle Inspector will perform a site visit to ensure that the site complies with standards.

Upon receiving application and verifying that all requirements have been met, a licence will be issued to the applicant that is valid up to and including December thirty-first of each year. This will entitle the licensee to carry on and conduct the business of a dealer, sub-dealer, used motor vehicle dealer or wrecker, as the case may be.
