The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) assists other federal government departments and agencies by administering and enforcing legislation and regulations of those organisations. In certain cases, this ensures that prohibited and controlled goods are not illegally imported into or exported out of the country.
Some government departments and agencies prohibit certain goods from entering or leaving Canada. Certain other goods are controlled, meaning that permits, certificates, labelling or authorizations from a federal department or agency are needed before the goods can be released by the CBSA. Goods are held until the importer or exporter meets all the requirements.
