The role of the Industrial Relations Branch is to facilitate harmonious relations between labour and management in the private and quasi-public sectors by providing neutral third party assistance and preventive mediation services.
Private and quasi-public sectors.
The Branch provides provide third party assistance to the parties to help them overcome impass during negotiations, through the appointment of a conciliation officer, mediation officer, interest based facilitator, conciliation board, arbitration board, or a combination thereof.
The Branch provides preventive mediation services designed to promote healthy labour relations between the parties while a collective agreement is in force. Such services include: assisting in the establishment of labour-management committees, conducting relationship improvement programs, implementing joint labour-management training sessions, providing voluntary grievance mediation services, interest based bargaining and coordinating other consultative mechanisms.
