To Whom Does This Apply?

Any sheep owner who experiences loss due to the death or injury of their sheep by dogs.

Summary

This document is based on information from the Sheep Protection Act, as of January 2008.

Where a sheep is killed or injured by a dog, the owner of the sheep may, within forty-eight hours, notify the Minister of Agriculture and Aquaculture who shall appoint an investigator.

The investigator shall investigate the complaint, report to the Minister within ten days of his appointment the results of the investigation and his recommendation, and send a copy of his report and recommendation to the owner of the sheep.

The Minister may recover the expenses of the investigation from the owner of the dog.

Where a dog is known to have killed or injured sheep, the Minister may order the owner to destroy the dog, or destroy the dog.
