The Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) Honey Inspection Program, under the Canada Agricultural Products Act, ensures that any honey or honey products leaving the CFIA-inspected establishments or any honey imported into Canada, is safe, meets standards and is appropriately labelled. This includes evaluation of the overall manufacturing practices of honey processing establishments to ensure that all honey and honey products are manufactured under sanitary conditions.
The CFIA's honey inspection program applies to honey producer-graders, honey packing establishments as well as pasteurizing plants that engage in interprovincial or international trade or are wanting to use a Canada grade sticker on their product. Bulk, ungraded honey moving between provinces is exempt from the regulations.
