The Fisheries Operations Management Initiative (FOMI) is offered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). This initiative will support First Nations in learning more advanced skills to manage their communal fisheries assets with the objective of maximizing benefits for fishers and communities.
Must be a Mi'kmaq and Maliseet First Nations affected by the Marshall Response Initiative.
The provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the Gaspé region of Québec.
The FOMI can assist First Nations by providing financial assistance to engage private sector expertise to help them address internal issues.

Over the next four years, DFO will provide financial assistance totalling $1 million to help First Nations improve the operation and management of their fisheries assets to provide benefits for fishers and the community. This may include assisting First Nations in determining and implementing management structures, setting out how information sharing and reporting will be carried out, as well as establishing and communicating roles and responsibilities.
