Mandate: To survey, identify property requirements, design and prepare tender documents for grading, paving, municipal and structures projects for the Department's construction program. To provide technical expertise to the department relating to highway, structure and municipal design and geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering in order to ensure delivery of the program. To provide document support for the property acquisition process. To administer and provide technical support to the Department's technical research program.
Arterial Highway Program (Section)

Mandate: The Arterial Highway Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the planning, design, land acquisition, and construction activities for the provincial arterial highway programs and the federal-provincial cost-shared highway agreements. The Coordinator facilitates communication and scheduling for the Branches and outside agencies that are involved with these construction programs.

Mandate: The Site Manager system is a computer application that is used to track construction related data. The system is used by field personnel to track on site information such as the contractor's activities and materials tests. The system is also used by construction office staff to track construction contract administrative information and to generate contractor payment documents.

Mandate: The Grading unit is responsible for managing the Grading Program, which covers the construction of new highways, reconstruction of existing highways, replacement of large culverts on roads not being reconstructed, and calcium chloride stabilization of gravel roads.
Paving and Surface Treatments (Section)

Mandate: This unit oversees the asphalt concrete resurfacing on a province wide basis, strengthening of existing highways and paving new sections of highway. The chipseal crews complete the surface treatment on the rural road system.
