Native Plants Gardening Workshop
Time: 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Location: MUN Botanical Garden
Description: Learn about native plants that can be utilized in your garden. Whether your garden is devoted to standard perennials, rock garden type plants, shrubs and/or trees, there are native plants that can be used to compliment the many exotic plants already available. Many exotic ornamentals are prone to insects and disease, are genetically weak or may become invasive. Our natives are adapted to our climate and are often more carefree. So come and find out what Newfoundland natives have to offer to your garden! Please be prepared to go outside. In the event of inclement weather, a power point presentation will be provided. The instructor is Todd Boland, Research Horticulturist. Pre-registration is required. The fee is $25 (including HST). For more information, please visit the Garden's website: www.mun.ca/botgarden.

What if there really are two types of people?
Time: 2:30 a.m.-4 a.m.
Location: Business, BN-3007
Description: Dr. Kevin Kelloway from the Sobey School of Business, St. Mary's University, will speak on What if there really are two types of people? Implications of the taxonic hypothesis for organizational research. Almost invariably the constructs of interest in organizational research are conceptualized as dimensions or continua. Researchers are frequently warned against the dangers of dichotomizing such continuous measures for analytic convenience. Dr. Kelloway would suggest that a parallel problem is based in assigning continuous measurement to categorical or dichotomous phenomena. Taxometric analysis was introduced to the clinical literature by Paul Meehl as a means of detecting and defining group differences. Dr. Kelloway will discuss the implementation and implications of the method for research in organizations.
