Homeowners
Homeowners are often making improvements to their homes and property and from time to time, require by-law information and staff on hand to answer general questions about new or existing water and sewer services.
Service disruptions can occur throughout the City. This might be
a break to a water-line, an overflowing catch-basin, a noisy valve box or manhole
cover, cloudy tap water, or a plugged sewer connection that has flooded a portion
of a finished basement. It is sometimes difficult for a homeowner to figure
out when the City should get involved with a problem or concern.
A good rule of thumb is to call us if you are unsure about an issue and we
will do our best to direct your call to the most appropriate person available.
In general, Engineering Services primarily looks after the maintenance and
construction of piping and drainage and related accessories on City property,
as well as the delivery of potable water and the outflow of wastewater. Guidelines
surrounding private property piping and drainage falls under the jurisdiction
of the plumbing inspectors with the Community
Services Group, formerly Permits and Licenses.
