Minister of State for Science and Technology Gary Goodyear Applauds Perimeter Institute on Appointment of World-Class Researcher Stephen Hawking

OTTAWA, November 27, 2008 — As Minister of State for Science and Technology, I welcome the announcement that Dr. Stephen Hawking, one of the world's top scientists, has agreed to accept the position of Distinguished Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario. Dr. Hawking has made extraordinary contributions to theoretical physics, helping explain the nature and origins of the universe.

This is great news for the Canadian research community and great news for Canadians.
