Daniel F. Muzyka Appointed to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada

OTTAWA, May 12, 2008 — The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), today announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel F. Muzyka as a member of the Council.

"Dr. Muzyka's experience in the private sector, academia and on a number of advisory boards will prove to be of tremendous value to the Council and its work in supporting university research in science and engineering," said Minister Prentice. "I welcome Dr. Muzyka to NSERC."

Dr. Muzyka holds a Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard University and an MBA, with a concentration in Strategic Planning, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Since 1999, Dr. Muzyka has assumed the role as Dean and Professor, Sauder School of Business, at the University of British Colombia.

Dr. Muzyka's business experience includes Vice-President and General Manager of Planning Economics Group in Woburn, Massachusetts, and Vice-President of Braxton Financial Group in Boston, Massachusetts.

NSERC is a federal agency whose vision is to help make Canada a country of discoverers and innovators for the benefit of all Canadians. The agency supports some 25,000 university students and postdoctoral fellows in their advanced studies. NSERC promotes discovery by funding more than 11,000 university professors every year and fosters innovation by encouraging more than 1,400 Canadian companies to participate and invest in university research projects.
