Minister Clement Announces Interim Commissioner of Competition

OTTAWA, December 22, 2008 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, is pleased to announce that Melanie L. Aitken, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition, has been appointed interim Commissioner of Competition, effective on January 12, 2009.

The government will move forward in the new year with a public selection process to appoint the next Commissioner of Competition. This process will be published in the Canada Gazette and will be listed on the government's public appointments website.

Minister Clement thanks Sheridan Scott for her five years of service as Commissioner of Competition and wishes her the best with her future endeavours.
