Greater Golden Horseshoe Transportation Plan
The Ministry of Transportation is developing a long-term, comprehensive and multimodal transportation plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH).

High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes
High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes lanes help move more people on Ontario's busiest highways. They are restricted to certain types of vehicles carrying at least 2 people. Make sure you know and follow the rules for entering and exiting HOV lanes.

High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes
A High-Occupancy Toll, or HOT, lane pilot project will begin on a section of the QEW between Trafalgar Road in Oakville and Guelph Line in Burlington in summer 2016 to help manage congestion and add another option for travellers.

Highway Corridor Management
Anyone planning to construct on or adjacent to a provincial highway may require a permit from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). MTO issues permits under the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act and administration of the permits is the responsibility of the Corridor Management Office. The Corridor Management Office reviews applications from developers, municipalities, utility companies, and the general public for adherence to policies and impacts on the highway system, resolving conflicts, issuing permits, and enforcement of violation of policies.

Southern and Northern Highways Programs
The Southern Highways Program (SHP) and Northern Highways Program (NHP) are annually published, five-year investment plans for highway construction in southern and northern Ontario.

Ontario Border Crossings
Ontario has 14 road border crossings, one truck ferry, and four passenger ferries with the United States. The province's international crossings in Windsor, Sarnia and Fort Erie/Niagara Falls are the busiest in Canada based on the volume of goods and number of trucks crossing the border.

Bridge repairs
What engineers look for when inspecting bridges and how bridges are repaired or replaced.

Major highway projects
Construction is underway on two major projects, the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway connecting Highway 401 to the Interstate system in Michigan, and Highway 407 East in central Ontario.

Report inappropriate activity related to highway construction
Submit a report if you suspect inappropriate activity (e.g. collusion, fraud) has taken place involving an Ontario highway construction contract or project.

Connecting Links
A program to help municipalities pay the construction and repair costs for municipal roads that connect communities to provincial highways and border crossings.

Environmental standards and practices for provincial transportation facilities
Every provincial transportation project undergoes an environmental assessment process or screening before it can proceed.
