AFM's Adult Rehabilitation
Services provide a safe and supportive environment for
individuals' making healthy lifestyle changes. We , at
AFM, appreciate that these changes usually involve taking
risks and often require time for people to develop new
life skills. For your sake and the sake of those you care
about... reclaim your life.
If problem drinking or drug abuse is causing you or your
family concern, we can help.
Adult services are delivered to adults 18 years and older
that are requiring assistance due to their involvement
with alcohol, other drugs and/or gambling. Our services
are provided through 6 rehabilitation facilities and offices
located in 26 communities across the province. |
How do I get
help?
AFM offers a number of choices depending on what your
interest or need is:
- If you want help with alcohol, other drugs
or problem gambling for yourself or your family we have
counsellors that can talk with you to determine the program
that best suits you. The first step would be to access the
intake department of any AFM program. You can do that by
calling your local AFM office
and ask for an intake appointment.
- If you are interested in information, the
AFM Library offers comprehensive,
up-to-date and reliable information on issues, trends and
research in the addictions field.
- If you are looking for educational
information, the AFM has a variety of educational courses available
through our Continuing Education department.
How do I know which program is best for
me?
There are a number of programs
and services available. Through the intake and assessment process,
a counsellor will explain what services are available and together
you and your counsellor will determine which rehabilitation
program is best suited for your needs.
What if I just
want more information?
The AFM has a number of choices when looking for information:
- AFM staff can provide a great deal of information
on programs and resources in your communities. Contact your
local AFM office .
- AFM's William Potoroka
Memorial Library offers comprehensive, up-to-date and
reliable information on issues, trends and research in the
addictions field.
- AFM produces an informational newsletter
for distribution. If you are interested in receiving the
"Inside View", please
contact the Awareness and Information unit.
Do I have to live
in residence or can I go to a day program?
The choice to stay in residence or not, is determined by you
and your counsellor during the assessment process. During this
process, if it is suspected that you may be at risk of using
outside of the program, then recommendation is usually made
to attend the residential program. If you are seen as stable
and in a safe environment, a community based program may be
recommended.
What is available
to me after I complete the program?
After you complete programming with the AFM, you are provided
with a variety of resources and services. Continuing Care is
a program that includes one to one counselling and small group
encounters. Continuing Care assists you in following through
on your rehabilitation plans and in meeting your long and short
term goals.
Telephone counselling is available if
you are returning to a remote community program may be recommended.
You may choose to go on to further programming
outside the AFM. Long term rehabilitation facilities and halfway
houses provide safe and structured environments.
How do I access
services?

social service agency, Provincial Social Assistance, Probation
