TIRI

The Geological Survey of Canada Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory ceased operation at the end of 2005. This site will be maintained to provide reference information on the samples dated during the 45 years of operation of the GSC laboratory from 1960 to 2005.

The Third International Radiocarbon Intercomparison (TIRI) was undertaken to provide an independent objective assessment of the maintenance and/or improvement of analytical quality in C-14 laboratories. This international crosscheck program (TIRI) encompassed more than 75 laboratories worldwide. A number of preliminary papers have been published outlining the results of the intercomparison.

During July 1993, and December 1993 to February 1994, the GSC Laboratory processed 12 samples and generated 29 analyses with all samples being counted at least once in both of GSC counters. The GSC data has been compared to the consensus values in a summary table.
