Overview Three animations present simulated aircraft flights and oblique views of the landscape (Location map). The images were generated from a chromo-stereo enhanced Digital Elevation Model using the PCI, FLY! module. Vertical exaggeration of the image is approximately 8 times. The colours are assigned according to elevation: cold (blue) is low and hot (red, purple) is high. The surface elevation of Lake Ontario is 74 m asl while the crest of the Niagara Escarpment is approximately 440 m asl. Each of the three presentations comprise three elements: i) the animation; ii) an explanation; iii) fuller resolution still images from the beginning, middle and end of each flight. It is possible to view all three elements at the same time as the animation runs in a separate window. The still images can be loaded to the main frame while the text is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Text has been placed on the still images to aid spatial referencing and the identification of major landscape features. The explanatory text comprises two sections, a geographic overview of the flight path and an explanation of the landscape.
