Natural Resources Canada > Earth Sciences Sector > Priorities (2002-2006) > Reducing Canada's vulnerability to climate change
Project: Regional climate change impacts: Geoscience information for OGDs
Activity: Permafrost response to climate change: Regional impacts and adaptation

This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.

Activities are aimed at producing maps of permafrost responses to time-dependant climate change scenarios, and working with other government agencies on developing mitigation and adaptation options. Techniques include physically-based modeling of sensitivity of permafrost to changes in climate and in ground surface environment, modeling of expected changes in response to climate warming scenarios, and vulnerability assessments for existing transportation/transmission corridors.
