Geomorphic effects and impacts from July 1996 severe flooding in the Saguenay area, Quebec Photo 8
Photo 8 - Deep channel erosion
Steeper reaches of Rivière des Ha!Ha! were eroded by the flood waters. In this photograph, channel incision and widening occurred along a narrow section of valley bottom. The post-flood channel perimeter is formed by a bouldery lag, as well as glacial sediments and bedrock which previously were buried by river alluvium. Note the homes situated upon the river terrace that were damaged by undercutting from the lateral erosion of the right bank; also, some homes (marked by empty driveways) have previously collapsed into the river. Photograph taken on July 28, 1996 (GSC photograph 1997-42NN).
