Consequence Management Program
This unit manages and develops the cross-government mitigation and preparedness for all forms of natural hazards, and is responsible for the response and recovery to all hazards, both natural and human-induced. For all risks, the unit coordinates and maintains the Alberta Emergency Plan and ensures the Consequence Management Operations Centre can be activated at any time.
Consequence Management coordinates the development and maintenance of hazard-specific plans such as the Support Plan for Catastrophic Earthquake in B.C., the Critical Pest Infestation Plan, the Foreign Animal Disease Eradication Support Plan and the Pandemic Influenza Incident Support Plan. The unit is also responsible for the coordination of the cross-government Business Continuity Planning process and the Government of Alberta Business Continuity Plan.
The unit also manages cross-ministry and cross-government consequence management communication, cross-ministry disaster response, ensures that appropriate staff in line ministries are capable, trained and available to be seconded for consequence management duties as required, and works hand-in-hand with Crisis Management to ensure the best possible response to terrorist activities.
