This unit manages and develops the cross-government mitigation and preparedness for all forms of natural hazards, and is responsible for the response and recovery to all hazards, both natural and human-induced. The unit is also responsible for the coordination of the cross-government Business Continuity Planning process and the Government of Alberta Business Continuity Plan.

The unit also manages cross-ministry and cross-government consequence management communication, cross-ministry disaster response, ensures that appropriate staff in line ministries are capable, trained and available to be seconded for consequence management duties as required, and works hand-in-hand with Crisis Management to ensure the best possible response to terrorist activities.
