Automobile Injury Compensation Appeals Commission

  • Hears appeals from claimants who disagree with a decision made by the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation (MPIC) about their benefits under the Personal Injury Protection Plan.

Consumers' Bureau

  • Provides a medium for the mediation and investigation of consumer complaints and takes action as appropriate concerning prosecution of offenders under the Acts administered.
  • Informs and educates individuals of their rights and responsibilities as well as potential risks in the marketplace.

Financial Institutions Regulation Branch

  • Provides information with respect to disputes with agents, adjusters and insurance companies.
  • Provides information to depositors about licensed trust and loan corporations.
  • Addresses questions from members of credit unions, caisse populaires and cooperatives in Manitoba.

Manitoba Securities Commission

  • Provides information and education to the public about investing.
  • Issues Investor Alerts to warn the public about investment scams.

The Property Registry

  • Provides a registry where ownership and interests in land (such as a mortgage or caveat) may be recorded and where records are maintained of all personal property registered as security for a loan, or collateral in Manitoba, including information on vehicle liens, land transfers, land transfer tax and historical searches.

The Public Utilities Board

  • Regulation of certain prices charged by MPI and public utilities and adjudication of consumer complaints.
  • Licensing authority for cemeteries and funeral directors selling pre-arranged funeral plans and adjudication of consumer complaints.

The Residential Tenancies Branch

  • Provides information and education to tenants and landlords about their rights and responsibilities.
  • Provides mediation and adjudication services to resolve landlord and tenant disputes.
  • Investigates possible breaches of the Residential Tenancies Act and the Life Leases Act and provides background information to resolve disputes.

The Residential Tenancies Commission

  • Hears appeals by landlords and tenants on orders and decisions issued by the Residential Tenancies Branch.

Tax Assistance Office

  • Informs and assists residents of Manitoba on the Manitoba income tax and tax credit programs.
  • Monitors all claims to ensure accuracy, corrects inaccurate claims and recovers ineligible amounts previously claimed by taxpayers.

Taxation Division

  • Provides information on retail sales, payroll, corporation capital, tobacco, motive, gasoline, mining and revenue taxes.

Vital Statistics

  • Registers all vital events (birth, marriage, stillbirth, death and legal name changes) in the Province to provide certificates for identification purposes.
