2007-10-17   Benefits Realization: Government of Canada Experience
[Presentation] Outcome Management is a strategic approach to ensure that initiatives are designed around departmental and government outcomes and that the intended outcomes are achieved. As Project Management deals with the processes necessary to deliver a capability and/or product within a pre-established time frame and budget, Outcome Management focuses on the processes needed to realize the benefits of each initiative.
Presenter: Christine Desloges
Date presented: 2006-02-06

    Outcome Management Guide and Tools
[Guide] Outcome Management is all about planning, managing and achieving the intended outcomes of an initiative or a program in the public sector. It is all about having the same focus and discipline around attaining these outcomes as the domain of Project Management has around delivering the capability and the systems in an on-time and on-budget manner.

Outcome Management: Lessons Learned and Best Practices
[Best Practices] This report documents the lessons learned by twelve Government of Canada initiatives that used the Outcome Management or cost-benefit analysis techniques to demonstrate their value. It also documents a series of related best practices for effective Outcome Management from other jurisdictions that are in various stages of introduction and adoption of Outcome Management (or equivalent). It includes recommended next steps for consideration should the Government of Canada decide to pursue the implementation of the Outcome Management approach as an improved means of realizing expected outcomes.

2002-04-11   Process Improvement
[Links] There are processes that must exist for project practices to be repeatable and project outcomes to be predictable. These processes must be in place and effectively performed if project teams are expected to deliver quality products. While most departments already have such processes in place, it is important that there be no gaps or weaknesses.
