Guidelines for applicants – artists and community collaboration fund (ACCF):
Designated Investment For 2006-2007
Purpose
The Artists and Community Collaboration Fund (ACCF) for 2006-2007 increases the Canada Council for the Arts’ commitment to the diverse artistic activities that bring together professional artists and the broader community. Through this, it gives the arts a stronger presence in everyday life. The fund offers opportunities for communities to express themselves through creative collaborations with leading professional artists.
This fund offers financial support to projects that connect professional artists and communities. The ACCF is delivered through participating programs in all sections of the Canada Council.
Note: Artists and community collaboration activities are also supported within other Canada Council programs, outside the framework of the ACCF.
Definition
Artists and community collaboration is an arts process that actively involves the work of professional artists and non-arts community members in creative and collaborative relationships. The collaborative process may include projects that involve youth and arts education.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements of the Canada Council programs for professional artists participating in the fund. Creation/production projects can include a development or project viability stage.
Applicants may submit only one project per participating program deadline.
Ineligible Projects
Activities that are not eligible include:
- capital projects (such as the renovation of a building);
- activities that are part of an accredited college or university program;
- fundraising events;
- events that have already taken place;
- activities that appear in any other request to the Canada Council, including a request for operating support.
All programs of the Canada Council for the Arts are accessible to Aboriginal artists and arts organizations and artists and arts organizations of diverse regional and cultural communities of Canada.
Potential applicants are strongly advised to speak to the appropriate program officer to confirm their eligibility before submitting their request.
Deadlines
This document lists the deadlines to apply for funding for the 2006-2007 fiscal year (1 April 2006 to 31 March 2007) from the participating programs in all sections.
Grant Amount
Eligible costs vary according to the criteria of each participating program. Retroactive funding is not available.
How to apply
Applicants must apply to one of the participating Canada Council programs by completing the application form for that program. Participating programs are listed at the end of this document.
Assessment of Applications
Assessment Process
Applications are assessed by the regular peer assessment committees for each participating program. These committees are composed of artists and arts professionals chosen for their knowledge and experience in their discipline.
Specific Assessment Criteria
In addition to the regular assessment criteria published for participating programs, peer assessment committees will give priority to the following assessment criteria in their evaluation:
- merit of the proposed collaborative process (where the artistic process tied to specific communities is as important as the final outcome);
- the relevance of the project for participating community members and on the artists involved, in particular for youth;
- the experience of the company or artists involved, and their proven ability to carry out such a project;
- the public impact of the project;
- the project’s pertinence or relevance in creating a stronger presence of the arts in everyday life.
Additional Support Material
In addition to the requirements of the participating program, applicants must provide the following information:
letters or other proof of intent from the artistic and non-artistic partners;
written authorizations or assurances of copyright clearance, when appropriate;
a description of the self-assessment and external evaluation process that the applicant would use to determine how well the project meets its objectives.
