The strategic priorities have been defined to include five designated priority sector: Arts and Culture, Environmental Remediation, Knowledge-Based, Oil and Gas Development, Tourism Development;
as well as a separate category called Strategic Initiatives.

Each sector has its own Task Force, plans and priorities and strategic direction.

The CBGF has also established a number of investment criteria that will be used to evaluate the suitability of each and every project that is submitted to the CBGF for funding.  These criteria include: leverage, sustainability, job creation, incrementality; and results management.
