Regional Engagement Initiative
With the goal of providing better service, we at DIAND in the NWT Region
are committed to improving our working relationships with people, organizations
and groups in the Northwest Territories. We want to improve how we exchange
information, consult and make decisions as we carry out our work. To this
end, we are undertaking a Regional Engagement Initiative (REI).
Phase One
In the Fall of 2004, DIAND developed a discussion paper entitled
Seeking Your Views:
Improving Our Engagement Practices in the NWT (PDF 958 Kb). The
paper described the many instances where DIAND engages residents, Aboriginal
people, governments and other organizations in its decision-making processes.
DIAND issued an invitation to its stakeholders to make comments and provide
suggestions about how its consultation and engagement practices could
be improved.
The response to this invitation was very positive. Stakeholders and governments
from around the NWT provided valuable feedback. The result of this first
phase of the Regional Engagement Initiative (REI) was the generation of
two documents:
1) What We Heard – Feedback from Phase One of the REI, and
2) Some Suggestions for
Improving DIAND’S Engagement & Consultation Practices in the
NWT (PDF 224Kb).
The What We Heard document summarizes the comments that DIAND received
from its various stakeholders with regard to how well it engages and consults
with NWT residents. Based on the comments received during Phase One of
the REI, DIAND has developed some suggestions for how we can improve our
engagement and consultation practices.
Phase Two
We are now seeking your input on Some
Suggestions for Improving DIAND’S Engagement & Consultation
Practices in the NWT (PDF 224Kb), along with any further suggestions
you may have. Over the next two months (July and August 2006), we encourage
you to provide input through written submissions and discussion.
Your input will then be used to develop an Engagement & Consultation
Action Plan to improve our regional engagement and consultation practices.
The development and completion of this plan will constitute Phase Three
of the REI.
We want to hear from you. Your comments will be carefully considered.
There are a number of ways to respond:
1) Provide written comments by September 1, 2006, by regular mail (address
below) or by email to JacksonJL@inac-ainc.gc.ca
or
2) Meet with DIAND staff to discuss your interests and concerns. If you
or the people you represent would like to meet and discuss engagement
interests and issues, please contact our coordinator for this project
