Canada Business - Services for entrepreneurs Canadian Consumer Information Gateway Strategis

Industry Canada and the Industry Portfolio offer a variety of awards that acknowledge and reward outstanding achievements in the areas of Aboriginal business, information and communications technology applications, regional development, trade, and youth. Some award programs are sponsored in part by the department or are delivered in partnership with private institutions.

Competition

The James H. Bocking Memorial Award
The James H. Bocking Memorial Award was established by the National Competition Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association in memory of the late James H. Bocking (1947–1999), a former Assistant Deputy Director of Investigation and Research at the Competition Bureau. The award is presented annually for the best scholarly paper on a subject directly relating to Canadian competition law or policy.

Regional Development

Music and Film in Motion — Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards Program
Music and Film in Motion (MFM), of which Industry Canada's FedNor is a supporter, is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to foster and promote the development of the music and film industries in Northern Ontario. The Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards Program was created to recognize and celebrate talent in the Northern Ontario music and film community and to showcase the artists on a regional, provincial, and national level.

Federal Partners in Technology Transfer (FPTT) — FPTT Awards
Federal Partners in Technology Transfer (FPTT), of which Industry Canada is a member, strives to foster the development of professional capacity within the Government of Canada to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of technology and knowledge transfer. Established in 1998, the annual awards reflect the best practices employed by individuals in the public and private sectors, whether separately or as a team, to develop techniques, services and products that create jobs in Canada and new markets beyond our borders. An online call for nominations is included, as well as lists of past recipients.

Youth

Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) — Young Entrepreneur Awards
Founded in 1996, the Canadian Youth Business Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that helps identify young entrepreneurs with bright prospects and nurtures them through the start-up phase of commercial development. Partnered with Industry Canada, the foundation offers loan programs, mentoring and an online resource called YouthBusiness.com. The foundation's Young Entrepreneur Awards include categories such as Best New Business Award, Fastest Growing Business, Community Leadership Award, Outstanding CYBF Mentor Award, and CYBF Entrepreneurship Champion Award. Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
The Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Education (ECE) were launched in 2003 to honour outstanding educators who, through their dedication and skill, are giving children an important head start that helps them succeed at school. The ECE awards are administered by Industry Canada with support from Social Development Canada and Health Canada.

Prime Minister's Awards (PMA) for Teaching Excellence
Since 1993, the Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence have recognized the efforts of outstanding teachers in all disciplines who instill in their students a love of learning, helping them excel and build a successful future. Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC)

Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards
The Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards, of which BDC is a sponsor, profile and honour women in Northern Ontario who have contributed to the region's economic wealth, job creation and growth. The site includes an online nomination form, press releases, and lists of winners, sponsors and judges.

Northern Ontario Business Awards (NOBA)
The Northern Ontario Business Awards, which were launched in 1988, are sponsored in part by the Business Development Bank of Canada. The awards celebrate successful businesses throughout Northern Ontario. The website provides a nomination form, a list of judges, past winners, and the agenda for the awards dinner.

Young Entrepreneur Awards
The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) Young Entrepreneur Awards pay tribute to exceptional young entrepreneurs between the ages of 19 and 35 representing every province and territory of Canada. Winners are also eligible for two other prizes: the Export Achievement Award and the Creative Mind Award. Former Young Entrepreneur recipients are also eligible to apply for the new BDC Ongoing Achievement Award, which recognizes a business that has grown steadily.

Canadian Space Agency (CSA)

Scholarships and Fellowships
Each year, the CSA Fellowships in Space Science encourage promising space science researchers to conduct space-related research activities in a university, an industry or a government research institution in Canada. Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)
Full-time Canadian students in a bachelor's degree program in the natural sciences or engineering can apply for an Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Award. The website includes information on eligibility, award value, how to apply, selection criteria, application deadlines and award decisions.

Michael Smith Awards for Science Promotion
The Michael Smith Awards for Science Promotion, first awarded in 1994, recognize up to five individuals or groups who promote science through activities that encourage popular interest or develop science abilities. The website includes a biography of Michael Smith, information about the awards, an online nomination form, press releases, and a list of past recipients.

NSERC Prizes
NSERC Prizes are awarded for a variety of achievements, including excellence in natural sciences and engineering research, innovation, science promotion, and doctoral and postdoctoral research. Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)

University Faculty Awards
The University Faculty Awards provide up to five years of salary support for talented female or Aboriginal researchers in natural sciences and engineering in Canadian universities. Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)

Prizes
SSHRC's two commemorative prizes — the SSHRC Aurora Prize ($25 000) and the SSHRC Gold Medal for Achievement in Research ($100 000) — honour researchers whose originality and contribution to social sciences and humanities research have helped enrich Canadian society.

As well, each year, the Canada Council for the Arts, in conjunction with SSHRC, awards two $50 000 Molson Prizes — one in the arts and the other in the social sciences and humanities — to distinguished Canadians who have made important contributions to Canada's cultural and intellectual heritage.

Standards Council of Canada (SCC)

SCC Awards
The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) believes in recognizing the volunteers and organizations that contribute time and expertise to the National Standards System (NSS). Statistics Canada

The Canadian Association of Geographers / Statistics Canada Student Award for Research into Human Impacts on the Canadian Environment
This award recognizes and promotes undergraduate research on Canada's environment, and encourages the use of Statistics Canada's data in environmental analysis. The award is given to an undergraduate student for the best paper examining the impacts of human activity on Canada's environment. The Robin P. Armstrong Memorial Prize for Excellence in Native Studies
The Robin P. Armstrong Memorial Prize for Excellence in Native Studies is presented annually to a graduate student in geography or native studies with the best Master's or PhD thesis on an aboriginal topic. The award is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Geographers, Statistics Canada, and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.

Statistics Canada Award for Foundations of Education
Any student who has used Statistics Canada information or resource materials to develop a project or paper may apply for the Statistics Canada Award for Foundations of Education. This award recognizes and promotes excellence in research and encourages the application of Statistics Canada information to the field of education. Statistics Canada Prize for Curriculum Studies
In collaboration with the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies, the Statistics Canada Prize for Curriculum Studies is awarded to a post-secondary student who completes a project using the Statistics Canada website, the E-STAT database, or other Statistics Canada products.

Statistics Canada Research Prizes and Award for Excellence in Educational Research Using Statistics Canada Databases
Open to all students enrolled in a graduate degree program, these awards recognize excellence in research and encourage further research and analysis using the education data collected by Statistics Canada. Up to five Research Prizes are presented annually based on research proposals involving the use of Statistics Canada data. One Award for Excellence in Educational Research, based on an article suitable for presentation at the annual meeting, is given out. The Statistics Canada Web Page Contest
The Statistics Canada Web Page Contest encourages Canadian students from kindergarten and up to display data in creative ways on the Internet.

GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence
Since 2002, the Globe Foundation and The Globe and Mail have presented the GLOBE awards to recognize Canadian businesses that contribute to environmental excellence through creativity, initiative and leadership. Award categories are as follows: the Capital Markets Award for Sustainable Investment & Banking, the Corporate Competitiveness Award, the Corporate Award for Technology Innovation and/or Application, the Industry Award for Environmental Performance, and the Industry Award for Export Performance. Canadian Association of Broadcasters — Awards
Established in 1926, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters is a professional industry association with over 600 members. Its awards recognize outstanding productions in radio, television, specialty and pay services, new media, and community service.

Canadian Information Productivity Awards
The Canadian Information Productivity Awards recognize excellence in information technology and innovation implementation in all types of organizations across the country. Canadian Women in Communications – CWC Annual Awards
Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) is a national, bilingual organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the communications sector through networking, professional development and recognition. Infrastructure

The Canadian Council National Awards for Public–Private Partnerships
The Canadian Council for Public–Private Partnerships established a national annual awards program in 1998. In 2000, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) launched the Canadian Innovation Awards Program. These awards recognize innovative excellence by corporations in manufacturing and export sectors.

CATAAlliance Awards Program

  • Innovation and Leadership Awards — The CATAAlliance Awards for Innovation and Leadership are given out in five categories, each with specific nomination requirements. All awards recognize exceptional contributions made to the creation of science- and technology-based industrial strength in Canada.


  • Sara Kirke Award — The Sara Kirke Award for Canada's Leading Woman High Tech Entrepreneur, named in honour of North America's first woman entrepreneur, is presented to the woman who has shown the most outstanding technological innovation and corporate leadership.

Manning Innovation Awards
The Manning Innovation Awards recognize and encourage Canadian citizens who have demonstrated recent innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure. Applicants may be eligible for a Principal Award, an Award of Distinction, or an Innovation Award.

The Young Canadian Program, introduced in 1992, recognizes eight innovative projects selected by a team of judges at the annual Canada-Wide Science Fair.

Launched in 1984 by what is now Industry Canada and transferred to the National Quality Institute in 1993, the Canada Awards for Excellence (CAE) have honoured hundreds of organizations for their accomplishments. The National Quality Institute presents the Quality Award and the Healthy Workplace Award as part of the Canada Awards for Excellence to recognize outstanding achievement across major functions of organizations in the public and private sectors.

Trade

Ontario Global Traders Awards
The Ontario Global Traders Awards are presented by the Government of Ontario, through its agency, Ontario Exports Inc., and its partners in trade. Started in 1998, awards have been presented to honour small and medium-sized companies and individuals for their export success and achievement in Ontario and include the Leadership Award and the Student Achievement Award.
