Regulations and Standards

  • Fair Business Practices Branch (FBP), Competition Bureau, Industry Canada, provides advice on mandatory labelling requirements and voluntary guidelines for the marketing of consumer products.
  • The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers:
    • tax laws for the Government of Canada and for most provinces and territories; and
    • various social and economic benefit and incentive programs delivered through the tax system.

  • The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is an integral component in enhancing Canada's national security. CBSA will build on the success of the Canada-United States Smart Border Declaration to ensure the twin goals of public safety and economic security.

  • Health Canada in partnership with provincial and territorial governments, provides national leadership to develop health policy, enforce health regulations, promote disease prevention and enhance healthy living for all Canadians. Health Canada also works closely with other federal departments, agencies and health stakeholders to reduce health and safety risks to Canadians.
  • The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) provides standards development and conformity assessment services, including programs for certification of products and services, registration of quality and environmental management systems, and related services. These services are provided in support of economic, regulatory, procurement, health, safety and environmental interests.
