Information you need to provide

Internet User Identifying information

Before you use BRO, you'll be asked to provide certain information against which the CRA will perform a security check to confirm who's accessing the system. You'll be asked to provide :

  • your full name,
  • your social insurance number (SIN),
  • your phone number.

Business Information

When you're ready to register using BRO, have the following information on-hand:

  • full name and SIN of all owners, directors, partners or officers
  • the Business Number (if you already have one)
  • the business's physical and mailing addresses
  • if the business is incorporated, the following information from the certificate of incorporation:
    • corporate name
    • certificate number
    • date of incorporation, and
    • jurisdiction
  • other information depending on what you want to register for using BRO (for instance, the fiscal year-end, if you want to register for the GST/HST, or the number of employees, if you want to register for a payroll account)
  • the Business Identification Number (BIN) to renew your Province of Ontario Business Name.

Provincial Fees

There is a fee to register for some provincial accounts. In these cases, you'll be asked to provide credit-card information that will be forwarded only to the appropriate provincial program.

Official languages

The CRA part of BRO is offered in both of Canada's official languages. The Ontario and New Brunswick parts are also available in both English and French, while Nova Scotia and British Columbia's service are offered in English.

Information sharing with Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia

Since BRO lets you register for CRA or provincial programs at the same time, the following business information may be shared with our provincial partners :

  • the Business Number,
  • the business name,
  • the business address,
  • the business phone and fax numbers.

The CRA shares this information with its provincial partners under the authority of subsection 241(4)(l) of the Income Tax Act.
