Ethics in Research: The Ethics Office is responsible for developing and implementing policies and guidelines to fulfill the ethical and legal responsibilities that CIHR holds as a research sponsor. The Ethics office works with Institute Scientific Directors, the Standing Committee on Ethics, and key partners, in order to ensure the highest ethical standards are met across the organization. The Ethics Office is responsible for establishing guidelines for Research Integrity and for investigating alleged incidents of misconduct and non-compliance.The Ethics office also coordinates working groups and task forces, holds public consultations, and leads new policy initiatives into priority areas.
Research on Ethics: The Ethics Office works with the Research and Knowledge Translation and Major Initiatives Portfolio portfolios to build capacity in ethics; support the development and coordination of strategic initiatives; and fund research on ethics. Ethics Advice on Public Policy and Legislation Development: The Ethics office coordinates CIHR's involvement in developing or influencing public policy and legislation in priority areas.
The Ethics Office is also responsible for advising on and supporting development of the CIHR Stem Cell policy, including policy employed by the Stem Cell Oversight Committee (SCOC). SCOC is a committee of Governing Council of CIHR and reports to the Governing Council.
