Reporting Tools and Guidance

The NPRI Tools and Guidance Documents provide support for each reporting year.

The guides for reporting to the NPRI for each respective reporting year can assist a facility in determining if reporting to the NPRI is required, as well as how to prepare and submit an NPRI report.

The NPRI uses Environment Canada's One Window to National Environmental Reporting System, or OWNERS, to collect the data that must be submitted. OWNERS is a leading edge, on-line reporting system to collect environmental information and data from industries that must report on their emissions. It was developed by Environment Canada, in collaboration with provincial partners and other stakeholders. It is fully supported by the NPRI, which has played a significant role in developing the system. OWNERS is secure and easy to use.

Annual Reports

The NPRI Annual Reports summarize the data reported to the NPRI. The format of the report has changed from year to year; however, as a minimum, the report summarizes the national picture for the year the report was written and changes from the previous year. Supplementary tables may also be available and present more information than is included in the Annual Reports.

Databases

1994 - 2002 NPRI National Databases

The 1994-2002 NPRI National databases have been compiled using information received from facilities as of October 19, 2005. All publicly available information reported to the NPRI is provided in the downloadable database files and the On-Line Data Search site. The databases allow individuals to download the data files and to search and analyze the information using the software of their choice. The On-Line Data Search site allows individuals to examine the information on-line without having to download it onto their system.

A number of commercial relational database programs can be used to view and analyze the data. Before downloading data, users may wish to consult the attached Readme file and the PDF Database Structure files hereunder that provide context information for the Access download. If the formats provided does not meet your needs, alternate arrangements can be requested by e-mail at npri@ec.gc.ca.
