Current Activities Component one of NSAGI is currently underway. This first component consists of four studies designed to determine the period prevalence of AGI in the community, estimate the burden attributable to AGI and to calculate the extent of under-reporting in Canada. The four studies are as follows:
The population and physician studies consisted of surveys (phone and papers based respectively) that were administered to a study population within a defined geographical area (health unit). The first phase involved one health unit area in Ontario; future health unit areas in other provinces will participate in future phases. The laboratory study was a nation-wide survey administered to all microbiology laboratories in Canada. The public health reporting study has been administered in two provinces and will be rolled out to all other provinces in phase two. If you would like additional information on these studies and can't find it on this site, please contact us.
