Biography

Brigadier-General J.N.D. Bouchard, OMM, CD
Deputy Commander and Chief of Operations and Plans CANOSCOM

Brigadier-General J.N.D. Bouchard, OMM, CDBrigadier General Bouchard was born in Alma, Québec. He graduated from le Collège Militaire Royal de St-Jean, in 1978. Posted to CFB Montréal, he worked at Base Transport for two years and was subsequently appointed Executive Assistant to the Base Commander. Promoted Captain in 1981, he was posted to 4 Services Battalion Germany, and worked at the Logistics Operations Centre and the Supply and Transport Company.

He returned to Canada in 1984 to become Staff Officer Plans and Requirements at Force Mobile Command Headquarters in St-Hubert. He was responsible for the movement plans for exercises Rendez-Vous 1985 and 1987. Promoted Major in 1987, he was posted to 5e Bataillon des Services du Canada as the Senior Logistic Operations Officer for one year and became the Officer Commanding Transportation Company.

In 1990, he left Valcartier to put in place the National Defence Movement Co-ordination Centre in Ottawa. One year later, he was selected to attend the Command and Staff College in Toronto. Appointed Commanding Officer of 4 Canadian Forces Movement Control Unit, he participated to the deployment and redeployment of Canadian contingents in Somalia, ex-Yougoslavia, Cambodia as well as the closure of Cyprus and Canadian Force Europe. He also completed a Master Degree in Project Management in 1994.

Promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in 1994, he returned to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa to become successively Director Land Requirements 6, Senior Policy Advisor Director General Policy Co-ordination and Team Leader for the Military Occupational Structure Study for the Logistic Officers.

On 21 June 1996, he was appointed Commanding Officer 5e Bataillon des Services du Canada. On arrival, he deployed to Haiti as Commanding Officer Canadian Contingent Logistics Group and Deputy Commandant Canadian Contingent in Haiti. In 1996, Colonel Bouchard was appointed Honorary Aide-de Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of Québec.
