December 19, 2002
The National Flag of Canada will be flown at half-mast on the Peace Tower in Ottawa and on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada until sunset Monday, December 23, 2002, the day of the funeral of the late the Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn, P.C., C.C., C.M.M., C.D., Q.C., former Governor General of Canada.

December 6, 2002
The National Flag of Canada will be flown at half-mast on the Peace Tower in Ottawa and on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada from sunrise to sunset on Friday, December 6, 2002, to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

November 7, 2002
To honour the memory of all Canadians who have served their country in time of war, the Canadian flag will be flown at half-mast on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada from sunrise to sunset on Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11, 2002.

Should half-masting occur near a cenotaph or at another site where remembrance services are being observed, half-masting can occur at 11:00 a.m. (or according to the prescribed order of service) and extend until sunset. In this regard, the flag on the Peace Tower in Ottawa will fly at half-mast from the commencement of the service at the National War Memorial and remain in that position until sunset.

October 9, 2002
The flag on the Peace Tower and on the Lester B. Pearson Building in Ottawa will be flown at half mast from sunrise to sunset Thursday, October 10, 2002, to honour the memory of His Excellency Renaud Bernardin, Ambassador for Haiti in Canada.

Flags on the Peace Tower and on Government of Canada buildings and establishments within the limits of Winnipeg, Manitoba, are to be flown at half mast until sunset Saturday, October 5, 2002, the day of the funeral of the late Senator the Honourable Ronald Duhamel, P.C. current member of the Senate of Canada.

Flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada are to be flown at half mast from sunrise until sunset on Sunday, September 29, 2002 to commemorate the National Peace and Police Officer’s Memorial Day.

October 3, 2002
Flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments within the province of British Columbia are to be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset, Thursday, October 3rd, 2002, the day of the commemorative service of the late The Honourable Henry Bell-Irving, former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

September 6, 2002
Flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across Canada are to be flown at half mast from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 to commemorate the tragic events of that day the previous year in the USA.

The preferred time for buildings and establishments that are being used for ceremonial purposes to lower their flags to half-mast is at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. However, it is also acceptable to lower flags to half-mast in order to coincide with the established program for that ceremony.

July 24, 2002
Flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments within the province of Quebec will fly at half mast from sunrise to sunset, July 24, 2002, the day of the funeral of the late Louis Laberge, Member of the National Order of Quebec.

Mr Louis Laberge was one of the longest serving and most influential leaders of the modern day labour movement in Quebec. He was the vice-president of the Quebec Federation of Workers, from 1962 to 1964, followed by a 27 year term as president from 1964 - 1991. He also held various other positions, serving on the Work and Manpower Consulting Committee and the Health and Safety in the Workplace Commission. M. Laberge was an officer of the National Order of Quebec since 1988.

Furthermore, flags on the Peace Tower in Ottawa and on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments within the city of Longueuil, Quebec shall return to half- mast on July 18, 2002, from sunrise to sunset, day of the funeral for the late Honourable Jean-Pierre J. J. Côté, P.C., O.C. former Lieutenant Governor of Quebec and member of The Queen's Privy Council.

Furthermore flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments within the city of Montréal, Quebec shall return to half-mast from sunrise to sunset on July10, 2002— day of the funeral for the Honourable Jean Corbeil, member of The Queen's Privy Council.
