BackgrounderSeptember 21, 2005 THE CHINESE VERSION OF A GUIDE TO ADVANCE CARE PLANNINGAdvance care planning is designed to help seniors think and make decisions about their future care. The process ensures that an individual’s wishes are respected in the event that he or she is unable to communicate choices or becomes unable to make a decision. The Guide to Advance Care Planning was developed
by the government as part of Ontario’s Strategy for Alzheimer Disease
and Related Dementias. The Chinese version of the guide is an example
of the government’s ongoing efforts to make publications to meet
the needs of all Ontarians. The guide was created to help seniors in Ontario become more aware of the benefits of advance care planning and their rights in this area. The government continues to support training for advance care planning to help service providers respect the choices seniors make in the advance care planning process. Public education seminars on advance care planning
have been held in Chinese in the past as part of the government’s
Ontario Seniors’ Seminars series. For additional information on
programs and services related to seniors, visit the Ontario Seniors’
Secretariat website at www.citizenship.gov.on.ca/seniors
or call the Seniors’ Info Line at 1-888-910-1999.
Info Line operators are able to answer questions in Cantonese and Mandarin.
