Alstom and Bombardier join forces in Hamburg

A consortium made up of French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom and Canada’s Bombardier has been awarded a contract to supply trains for the subway in Hamburg, Germany. The €240 million (CAN$365 million) contract was announced yesterday by the consortium partners.

According to Alstom and Bombardier, “The contract includes the delivery of 27 trains from 2009 to 2013 as well as an option of a minimum of 40 additional vehicles.”

Bombardier Transportation will build the electrical equipment at its plants in Hennigsdorf and Mannheim, Germany, and Alstom will manufacture the mechanical parts, bogies and brake systems at its facility in Salzgitter, Germany.
