Privacy Statement

The Government of Canada (GoC) and Environment Canada are committed to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who visit our Web sites. This page summarizes the privacy policy and practices of Environment Canada Web sites.

  • The GoC does not automatically gather any personal information from you, such as your name, phone number, e-mail or street address during your visit to its Web sites. This information is only obtained if you supply it voluntarily, usually through contacting us via e-mail, or registering in a secure portion of the site.
  • All personal information you do provide is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected and that you have a right of access to the information.
  • Environment Canada (EC) uses per-session cookies. The per-session cookies do not collect personal information about you. Per-session cookies are used to store information within a session (or visit to our web site). These cookies are deposited on a user's computer only while the user is visiting the site and are deleted when the user closes the session. Here is the list of information that we are collecting by using per-session cookies:
    • The name of your Internet service provider, its IP address, and the name of your service provider's server
    • EC makes no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting EC sites
    • The length of each visit
    • The number of requests per visit
    • Your type of operating system (Windows, MacIntosh, Unix, etc.)
    • Your browser type (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.)
    By keeping this data, EC's web site administrators can fine-tune the sites based on user-activity trends.
  • Environment Canada is a participant in the GoC Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which gives you the opportunity to communicate with the Department in a confidential manner.

Official Languages

Environment Canada respects the Official Languages Act and relevant Treasury Board policies, and is committed to ensuring all information on this site is available in both French and English. SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
FOR
"OWNERS Reporting Software"

THIS IS A BINDING LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU ("THE END USER") AND ENVIRONMENT CANADA. BY USING THIS SOFTWARE YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY ALL THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THESE TERMS, DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE - Environment Canada ("EC") grants THE END USER a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use the OWNERS Reporting Software (the "Product") for the purposes of information reporting (the "Purpose"). These rights may not be assigned, sublicensed or in any way transferred to any third party without the expressed written consent of EC.

2. COPYRIGHT - THE END USER understands and agrees that the Product and all associated documentation are jointly owned by EC and various copyright holders as listed in Annex I. Such software is protected by Canadian copyright laws, international treaty provisions, and other applicable national laws.

3. CONDITIONS - The Product shall be used exclusively in accordance with the terms and conditions of the End-User License Agreements listed in Annex I and this license. THE END USER also accepts and acknowledges that these agreements may or may not be available in both of Canada's two official languages as the languages available is determined by the country of origin of the product's provider and that EC has no control or influence in this regard.

4. RESTRICTIONS - THE END USER may not, and THE END USER may not permit others to use the Product for any other use other than the Purpose including, but not limited to: (a) renting or leasing the Product, (b) using the Product in any manner that infringes the intellectual property of EC or any other third party.

5. INDEMNIFICATION - THE END USER agrees to indemnify and hold EC harmless from and against any claims, lawsuits, demands, including legal costs, which arise or result from the use or distribution of the Product.

In no event shall EC be liable for any incidental, indirect or consequential damages whatsoever (including, but not limited to, damages for loss of profits or for personal injury, for loss of privacy, for failure to meet any duty including of good faith or of reasonable care, for negligence, and for any other pecuniary or other loss whatsoever) arising out of or in any way related to the use of or inability to use the product, the provision of or failure to provide support services, or otherwise under or in connection with any provision of this license agreement, even in the event of the fault, tort (including negligence), strict liability, breach of contract, even if EC has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

6. NO WARRANTY - EC provides the Product and support services (if any) AS IS AND WITH ALL FAULTS, and hereby disclaim any warranties and conditions, either express, implied or statutory, including, but not limited to, any (if any) implied warranties, duties or conditions of merchantability, of fitness for a particular purpose, of accuracy or completeness of responses, of results, of workmanlike effort, of lack of viruses and of lack of negligence, all with regard to the Product, and the provision of or failure to provide support services.

7. TERM - This Agreement shall be effective on the day you first use the Product or on the date you receive your copy of the Product, which ever comes first, and shall expire 2 years from that date. It may be renewed upon written or electronic acceptance by both parties.

8. TERMINATION - Environment Canada reserves the right to terminate this License Agreement at any time and for any reason, without prior notification. Upon termination, THE END USER shall cease to use the Product and, remove from circulation and destroy all copies of the software and documentation.
