The Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) program integrates stabilization and disaster protection into a single program, helping producers protect their farming operations from both small and large drops in income. The CAIS program is a whole-farm program available to eligible farmers regardless of the commodities they produce.
This Web site outlines how the CAIS program works.
2007 Sign-up
Information on program participation deadlines will be available soon.
Previously, participants who missed the 2006 fee deadline were ineligible for both the 2006 and 2007 program years. Now, producers who missed this deadline will no longer be ineligible for the 2007 program year.
If you have never participated in CAIS before, you can request a 2007 New Participant Package (for producers farming in BC, MB, SK, NB, NS, NL and YT).
The deadlines to participate in CAIS 2003, 2004 and 2005 have passed.

Collection of CAIS overpayments
On May 5, 2006, the federal government announced that the collection of CAIS overpayments would be deferred and no interest charged until January 1, 2007. The collection of CAIS overpayments has now resumed. However, the federal government recognizes that repaying overpayments may pose a challenge for some producers, and as a result, no interest will be charged on overpayments until January 1, 2008.
