Lovers of Canadian photography get Carte Blanche

Alas, this is not, as it appears, a shot of some last empress-to-be, but an outtake from a fashion magazine spread featuring a hired model. “I’d just been to India and I wanted to use what I’d seen there in a shoot,” photographer George Whiteside says. Sometimes known as “Gorgeous George” for his ability to glamorize his subjects, Whiteside is among the nation’s top photographic mythmakers. “I keep a hugely relaxed studio, and don’t do a lot of big set-ups,” he says. His knack for setting his subjects at ease has given him a portfolio filled with shots of Canadian icons looking their best.
