Student Training and Employment Program (STEP)

Employers

Through the Student Training and Employment Program (STEP), both Government and Non-Government employers can apply for a wage subsidy to assist in providing summer employment for Yukon Post-Secondary Students. Employment positions should provide practical experience related to a specific field of study, providing students with an opportunity to acquire practical experience in their career-related field.

The wage rate for these positions is as follows:

      $14.40 per hour - students completing 1st year of post-secondary education
      $15.27 per hour - students completing 2nd year of post-secondary education
      $16.20 per hour - students completing 3rd year of post-secondary education
      $17.19 per hour - students completing 4th year (or higher) of post-secondary education

Students must be guaranteed employment for 450 hours or twelve (12) weeks at 37.5 hours per week.  Advanced Education will provide a wage subsidy of $7.20 per hour

Yukon Students

Looking for summer employment in Yukon this year? If you are a Yukon Student taking full-time undergraduate post-secondary studies and plan to resume your studies in the fall, or are graduating from a degree program this current year, then the Student Training and Employment Program (STEP) is for you. This program offers students an opportunity to gain practical experience in their field of study and utilize their theoretical knowledge in a work place setting.
