Ontario's rules about transportation can be found in the Highway Traffic Act. This act deals with vehicle licensing and classification, traffic offences, the administration of loads and other transport-related issues.

Agencies, boards and commissions

The ministry is affiliated with a number of agencies, which are independent bodies established by the government but not part of the ministry.

Metrolinx

Metrolinx was created to improve the coordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Its mission is to champion, develop and implement an integrated transportation system for the region that enhances prosperity, sustainability and quality of life.

Ontario Highway Transport Board

The Ontario Highway Transport Board controls entry and maintains an orderly development in the business of transporting passengers for compensation in public vehicles, both within Ontario and to other jurisdictions.
