SISERA and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) organizee an international conference in Dakar on January 28 and 29 2005, with the goal of examining the opportunities and challenges that African economic research centers face in influencing policies.

The main objective of the international conference was to allow economists, policymakers and donors to share experiences and discuss some of the following issues:
  • Do African research centres influence economic policy decisions?
  • Through which channels? Why do some of them fail?
  • Is it due to the lack of interest of policymakers in their work?
  • Or is it due to their weak technical and human capacities?
  • Are the researchers themselves motivated to advise policymakers?
  • What is the role of donors in this process?
