  • International Volunteer Day and the Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award

December 5, 2005 marks International Volunteer Day and Canadians are reminded of the value volunteers bring to Canadian communities.

Canada's 6.5 million volunteers play a vital role in helping secure and strengthen Canada's social and economic foundations. Their determination and dedication demonstrate the power that each one of us has to improve our communities.

If you know an outstanding lifelong volunteer – someone who has improved the lives of his or her fellow citizens, we invite you or your voluntary organization to submit a nomination for the Thérèse Casgrain Volunteer Award. The award was established to commemorate the work of Thérèse Casgrain, the force behind various social reforms and an ardent advocate of justice and equality. The call for nominations closes on February 1, 2006.
