Language Industry Program

Evaluation of the Language Industry Initiative

In March 2003, the Government of Canada released its Action Plan for Official Languages. Based on the Plan presented, Industry Canada (IC) was given the mandate to develop and implement the Language Industry Initiative (LII) over a period of 5 years (2003-2008).

Launched in 2003, the LII is now positioned to undergo an evaluation of its various components, including the Language Industry Program (LIP). The evaluation will meet Treasury Board and LII Results-based management and accountability framework (RMAF) requirements. The focus will be on fiscal years 2003-2004 to 2005-2006 and cover areas of: relevance, design and delivery, progress/success including lessons learned and cost effectiveness. The evaluation will allow Industry Canada to review the progress achieved since the initiative's inception and adjust accordingly over the next two years.

To conduct the evaluation, IC has retained the services of the consulting firm Samson and Associates. In order to complete their work, the consultants will communicate with stakeholders of the industry to gather their comments on the areas mentioned above. The information collected will add to the value and the relevance of the exercise.

The timeline for the project is December 05 to March 06. The results of the evaluation will be posted on Industry Canada's website in 2006.

Should you have any questions regarding the evaluation, please contact Ghislain Lafontaine at 613-946-5704.
