Canada's Natural Resources Now and for the Future

Image of a zero-emission car powered by Canadian fuel-cell technologyImagine -- an engine that combines hydrogen and oxygen without combustion to power your car. Zero-emission cars powered by Canadian fuel-cell technology will be in showrooms within the decade, letting us all breathe easier.

NRCan has been a key supporter of Canadian research and development of this revolutionary technology from its first beginnings over fifteen years ago.

Called a "Proton Exchange Membrane" fuel cell, it runs on hydrogen. It's clean and efficient, and has already proven itself in city buses and prototype cars.

This kind of powerful, environmentally friendly engine could revolutionize the automobile industry. And Canadian scientists and engineers, supported by NRCan, have built it.

Natural Resources Canada: Canadian science powering technology innovation.
