Project: Earth science for national action on climate change

This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.

The Government of Canada, NRCan and ESS have identified the impact of climate change on Canada's environment as a key concern for Canadians. To address this issue, the project generates new knowledge in key areas where gaps were identified by the Canadian Climate Change Program and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) or where reducing uncertainties is critical for policy decisions; and integrates this knowledge in synthesis reports, publications and databases available to the public. The resulting outputs and research expertise will be used to inform the national programs and international assessments. As a result, Canadians will have increased knowledge of the nature and locations of past, current and potential future impacts of climate change.
