Aeronautical Charting Program
Our Specialists

Since 1926, Canadians have been relying on Aeronautical Charting Program to supply reliable and accurate aeronautical information. Thousands of civilian and military pilots, air traffic controllers, government planners, and domestic and foreign airlines use our information daily. Applications for this information are diverse :

  • Enroute Navigation
  • Flight Planning
  • Air Traffic Control
  • Pilot Training
  • Search and Rescue Operations
  • Military Operations
  • Recreational Aviation

Located in Ottawa, Ontario, aeronautical process, product, and geomatics specialists work together to publish a complete line of charts and publications. The charts and publications are revised and updated from Flight Information Amendments (FIAs) submitted by NAV CANADA, Transport Canada and the Department of National Defence. The FIAs contain amendments to Canada's air navigation infrastructure and are used in combination with other sources like, Industry Canada, the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States and foreign countries Flight Information Publications, to name a few. The information is verified following a rigorous validation process by each of the aeronautical production teams before being certified for entry into the Canadian Aeronautical Charting (CANAC) Database. Publication Dates follow the AIRAC ( Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control ) Effective Date schedules of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The following are descriptions of specialists' responsibilities within the Aeronautical Charting Program (AERO). For information about the management, quality systems, people support, Cartographic Imaging and Printing Services and the History of aeronautical charting in Canada, please visit the Aeronautical and Technical Services (ATS) Division Web site.
