Clients:

Limestone hydro damClients of this program include all citizens of Manitoba, environmental groups, aboriginal organizations, Métis organizations, consultants, hydro-electric producers, government boards and departments, and the federal government.

Clients needs include: the right to use water for hydro-electric power generation, protection of the water resource base, protection of local interests from the adverse affects of water development projects, information on regulatory procedures and requirements related to water development projects, information on project impacts, fair and equitable arrangements regarding hydro-electric development impacts, sustainability of water resources for hydro-electric development, and water impact information concerning flooding and related hazards on Crown lands.

Objectives

  1. To ensure fair and equitable allocation of water
  2. To provide for optimal allocation of water within the sustainable limits of the resource base
  3. To assess and license appropriate hydro-electric proposals
  4. To provide clients with high quality, timely service and information
  5. To ensure that the potential for negative impacts of water power development projects are minimized
