An access goal is a performance goal for Alberta. It is a wait time within which a region must strive to provide ninety percent of selected elective services. Access goals are developed for three urgencies by clinical experts and approved by the Minister of Health and Wellness. Regions must strive to provide services so that their 90th Percentile Wait Time is equal to or better than the access goal.
The 90th percentile wait time is the wait time in weeks within which 90% of patients were served. It includes data from persons served during the 90 days prior to the report date. A wait time starts when the patient and ordering physician decide that a service is required and ends when the service is provided.
Urgency definitions for each category of service are in development. Urgency I is for more urgent conditions, urgency II for less urgent conditions and urgency III is for elective conditions.
Region(s) is the region where the service was provided. Region 'Alberta' is a provincial aggregate value for all health regions.
