About Us
The Petroleum Development Division deals with oil and gas development
under the Canada Petroleum Resources Act and the Canada Oil
and Gas Operations Act.
What do we do?
- provide general advice on regulatory requirements on oil and gas
exploration and development
- consult with communities and Aboriginal groups on oil and gas land
issuances and developments
- visit communities, give information sessions and oil and gas workshops
- advise industry and consult communities on oil and gas benefit plans
- deal with oil and gas related issues including:
- regulatory issues
- exploration
- land claims
- land access and land use planning
- socio-economic matters
What can we do for you?
- provide information and advice to industry, Aboriginal groups and
the community about:
- legislation and approvals process for oil and gas
- key NWT contacts
- the regulatory process
- land access issues including access to Crown and Private Lands,
protected areas strategy and land use planning
- provide pathfinding services for project approvals including
- project screening and assessments
- environmental approvals, permits & licences
