Sector Policies

Infrastructure Development
Subject to eligibility under ABC's supported activities, real property improvements not associated with a specific business project, but that establish a base for future business projects, are eligible for support, provided they are of a scale that they would qualify as Strategic Investments.

Support of Micro-Hydro Projects
Subject to eligibility under ABC's supported activities, Aboriginal Business Canada support for micro-hydro projects is to be used only to cover pre-feasibility and pre-development costs, such as proposal development, negotiations, legal fees and other "soft costs" required to obtain project financing. The policy does not permit a contribution towards construction costs of a new facility, or renovations or modernizations of existing facilities, or other capital costs.

Support of Fishing Vessels
Subject to eligibility under ABC's supported activities, business proposals involving the acquisition of fishing licences and fishing vessels are eligible for support when they are also eligible under Aboriginal Business Canada's current Program Priorities and they meet certain conditions.

Support of Gaming-Related Businesses
Subject to eligibility under ABC's supported activities, Businesses that manufacture gaming-related equipment and supplies are eligible for support. Examples of such products are lottery tickets, bingo cards and casino equipment. Wholesale and retail businesses that sell lottery tickets and cards, under licence and for a fixed commission, are also eligible, provided that the project to be funded falls under one of Aboriginal Business Canada's Program Priorities. The business must neither directly benefit from nor contribute to jackpot awards.
