GBAP includes a coordination and management structure that allows for
collaborative planning and stakeholder involvement. Partnering with
other organizations occurs on specific projects. This flexible management
structure allows for representation from partners at all levels as commitments
are developed.
GBAP MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE

Steering Committee
The Steering Committee is responsible for:
- Setting key directions and priorities
- Approving objectives for the coming year
- Accepting a progress report on work and achievements to date
- Dispute resolution or mediation
- Approval of annual communications plan
- Approval of GBAP reports or public announcements.
The Steering Committee will meet twice per year:
- Annual meeting with a public participation component to enable
interested public, stakeholders, and other levels of government
to provide input to the planning process, as well as receive
information on progress to date.
Coordination Office and Secretariat
Individual partners identify “Georgia Basin Coordinators”
within their organizations to support the Coordination and Secretariat
functions.
Environment Canada staffs a Coordination Office (GBCO) to:
- Support the Steering Committee and Joint Management Committee
- Facilitate Coast Salish First Nations and local government participation
- Foster information exchange
- Facilitate program integration amongst
and between the Planning and Implementation Teams, and complementary
Georgia Basin – Puget Sound transboundary initiatives.
Joint Management Committee
The Joint Management Committee (JMC) meets quarterly and comprises:
- Staff representatives of the signatory organizations and other departments,
agencies, ministries, organizations that participate in the delivery
of the Action Plan
- Agency representatives drawn from the co-chairs of the Action Plan
Planning and Implementation Teams, representatives of the Vancouver
Island and Lower mainland regional operations of MWLAP and MSRM (as
appropriate)
- Coast Salish representatives as identified by the Coast Salish
Sea Initiative
- Other agency staff as appropriate.
Planning and Implementation Teams
Planning and Implementation Teams are co-chaired by key partners and
include:
- Representatives from partner agencies
- Other government and non-government organizations involved in the
planning and delivery of Action Plan projects and initiatives
- Coast Salish First Nations
- A Georgia Basin Coordination Office staff member
- Issue-specific Planning and Implementation Teams (PIT) are formed
as appropriate and necessary
- The following PITs are currently in place:
- Integrated Data Management
- Clean Air
- Habitat & Species
- Clean Water
- Sustainable Communities.
Additional Organizations
Apart from ongoing engagement activities with GBAP, Georgia Basin stakeholders
and Puget Sound partners are invited to participate in an annual partners’
workshop and a joint meeting with the Steering Committee.
